Marching Band Culture Task Force

On August 4, 2014, Ohio State University President Michael V. Drake formally asked former Ohio Attorney General Betty D. Montgomery to lead a task force of outside experts to follow up on a report by the Office of University Integrity and Compliance. That report found that aspects of the band's culture have created a hostile environment for students and that band leadership failed to take adequate measures to correct the situation and address the situation's effects.

In his letter, President Drake specifically asked Montgomery's task force to:

• Conduct an assessment of the Marching Band's culture;
• Review University administrative processes and oversight;
• Provide counsel on relevant Title IX compliance issues.

The task force, which reports directly to the University President and Board of Trustees, has been asked to complete its work within 45 to 60 days.

The University will update this website as necessary and appropriate with information related to the task force's external review.
