Wanted: Your thoughts on higher ed's future

President Gee has a lot to say about where higher education is heading: "We must be the architects of the university of the future." As chair of a national Commission on Higher Education Attainment, Gee has issued a call for a public conversation, seeking solutions for dealing with cost, access, and other major challenges.

How can we give more people access to a high-quality education and ensure that students graduate with a college degree? Share your ideas on facebook.com/gordongee and @presidentgee (use hashtag #HigherEdFuture).

Recognizing excellence

The bar set by Buckeye educators and researchers continues to rise. Two Ohio State professors were recently elected to the National Academy of Sciences, while others were recognized for distinguished research, teaching, and service.

Watch President Gee surprise this year's winners.

The thinkers

Flesh-eating bacteria nearly killed Blake Haxton, but doctors at Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center saved his life. Now an Ohio State junior, Haxton spoke at the student-organized TEDxOhioStateUniversity event; he told others to view life as a "get to" not a "have to."

Watch Haxton and others share their "ideas worth spreading."

Multitasking misconceptions

Watching TV while reading a book. Checking e-mail while talking on the phone. Sound familiar? Studying why so many people engage in media multitasking, Ohio State researchers found the habit isn't as effective as we think.

Find out why we do it anyway.

Help at hand

Thanks to OSU Extension, university expertise about daily life reaches thousands of Ohioans. With gardening resources, nutrition know-how, financial planning tips, and advice on family issues, folks in all corners of the state have access to news they can use.

Use a new tool to ask an OSU Extension expert.

Traveling beams

The final beams for the new James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute and Critical Care Center have been traveling around central Ohio for the community to sign their name on the future of medicine.
