Values: Excellence

From Innovation on the Rise
I recently received Peter Geier’s quarterly letter to Medical Center staff. Peter Geier is the Vice President for Health Services, Chief Executive Officer, OSU Health System and Chief Operating Officer, OSU Medical Center. In his letter he thanked staff for a job well done and highlighted accomplishments in the Medical Center. He mentions five opportunities that are being implemented in the coming year. These changes are significant as we grow and focus on how to do things differently to save time and costs.
I am most interested in the challenges that he listed for the Medical Center—especially the last one, excellence to eminence. This is in keeping with the overall vision for the university. He mentions that we are already enjoying a status of excellence and it would be easy for us to be satisfied. If you look around, you can see that the Medical Center is not resting on its reputation but moving forward to set new and better standards in teaching, research, and patient care. The renovation of the Prior is just one of the projects that is moving the Medical Center from excellence to eminence. It is one piece of the larger development plan for the Medical Center Expansion. I am excited about the expansion and being a part of creating a better teaching and learning environment, a collaborative research environment, and the best in patient care facilities.
