EASC Asian Writers Series - Dragon Egg: Ethnographic Poetry from China A Reading of Nuosu Language Poetry by Aku Wuwu Sponsored by Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures and the East Asian Studies Center Aku Wuwu (aka Luo Qingchun) is a performance poet of the Nuosu (Yi) people of the Cool Mountains of South-west China. Aku writes startling ethnographic poetry enmeshed in the dynamics of cultural, economic, and ecological transformation. He will read from his corpus of Nuosu language poetry accompanied in English translation by Professor Mark Bender, DEALL. The reading will include power-point slides of Nuosu material culture. Aku Wuwu is a professor of ethnic minority studies at the Southwest Nationalities University, Chengdu, Sichuan. Aku will be available for questions after the talk. |
