Dr. Nihad Dukhan presents: Letters in Gold, History and Styles of Arabic Calligraphy Dr. Nihad Dukhan presents: Letters in Gold, History and Styles of Arabic Calligraphy. Friday, May 16, 12:30-3:30 50 Hagerty Hall Lecture and Workshop on Arabic Calligraphy Lecture is free and open to the public. The Workshop requires an RSVP to Cory Driver at driver.27@osu.edu Sponsored by The Middle East Studies Center, Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, and the Arabic Language and Culture Club at OSU. The lecture will cover the history, development, techniques and styles of the art of Arabic/Islamic calligraphy. It also touches on the philosophical aspect of it, and its relationship to Qur'anic writing. The lecture is concise and tailored to serve as an educational session to an audience with a considerable variation in knowledge of Arabic and calligraphy. It concludes with an extensive presentation of numerous prime examples of the different styles from different periods and different regions, which ends with a visual description of modern styles of Dukhan and its foundations. |
