College of Public Health's 2008 Champions of Public Health Awards The Ohio State University College of Public Health will present its fourth annual Champions of Public Health Awards on Oct. 16. The awards recognize the impact that individuals and groups have made on the health of Ohioans. The 2008 Champions of Public Health award winners are: ¥ Gary Smith, MD, Director of the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children's Hospital, in the Public Health Practitioner category ¥ Barbara Beckwith, advocate for breast cancer awareness among minority populations, in the Public Health Community Leader category ¥ SmokeFree Columbus Coalition, in the Public Health Organization category. The award will be accepted by coalition co-chairs: Rob Crane, MD; Marie Collart, PhD, RN; and Bishop Timothy J. Clarke. The Champions of Public Health Awards will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, at The Blackwell Inn, 2110 Tuttle Park Place, Columbus.
