Free showing of the film "Paying the Price: Migrant Workers in the Toxic Fields of Sinaloa" and discussion afterwards with speaker Melody Gonzalez, who is the campaign coordinator of Fair Food Across Borders. Come for free food, a good film, and interest The film "Paying the Price" is an eye-opening look at the working conditions of migrant workers on agribusiness farms throughout Northern Mexico. It addresses many themes such as migration, globalization, human rights, food networks, agribusiness, and international relations. Also, the film brings up questions about our own food choices, and how they may affect the broader issues all over the world. The speaker, Melody Gonzalez, is currently the Campaign Coordinator for FFAB. She graduated from Notre Dame where she helped lead a student boycott of an athletic sponsorship associated with Taco Bell. This was in support of the Immokalee Workers' Taco Bell boycott. After graduation, she worked as one of the National Coordinators for the Student/Farmworker Alliance, which is a partner organization of the Immokalee Workers Organization. Also, her father was a migrant worker in Sinaloa, Mexico, so she has an unique perspective on the life of a migrant. The event will include free food, a showing of the film, and a follow-up discussion led by Melody. |
