"Crossing Borders" documentary screening
| Event: |
"Crossing Borders" documentary screening As part of International Education Week 2012, the Office of International Affairs will host a screening of the documentary Crossing Borders. Youssef Yacoubi, an assistant professor in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, will facilitate a discussion following the screening, exploring the issues and themes presented in the film. Crossing Borders is a 70-minute documentary that follows four Moroccan and four American college students as they travel together through Morocco and, in the process of discovering Òthe other,Ó discover themselves. Through group travels and frank discussions, the students confront the supposed Òclash of civilizationsÓ between Islam and the West. Humor, honesty and a willingness to be challenged bring the students closer to each other, and the relationships they develop help disarm hidden stereotypes. The screening is co-sponsored by the Office of Student Life. |
