A Tribute to the Kuchar Brothers

Event: A Tribute to the Kuchar Brothers
American independent cinema lost a towering figure when filmmaker George Kuchar passed away in 2011. Including rarely seen Super 8mm films from the Kuchar brothers’ teenage years, this program of newly preserved work pays incredible tribute to George’s name and illustrates why the brothers‘ wickedly perverse pop-culture parodies and iconic humor were such major influences on filmmakers ranging from John Waters to Guy Maddin. (95 mins., 16mm)

Program:

The Slasher (George and Mike Kuchar, 1958) 20 mins.
Born of the Wind (Mike Kuchar, 1961) 20 mins.
A Town Called Tempest (George Kuchar, 1963) 30 mins.
Motel Capri (George Kuchar, 1985) 16 mins.

The Slasher, Born of the Wind, and A Town Called Tempest were preserved by Anthology Film Archives through the Avant-Garde Masters program funded by The Film Foundation and administered by the National Film Preservation Foundation.

Motel Capri was preserved by Harvard Film Archive through the Avant-Garde Masters program funded by The Film Foundation and administered by the National Film Preservation Foundation.
