Field & Screen 2013: Now, Forager
Field & Screen 2013: Now, Forager |
Described by the LA Times as Ňan appealing off-menu slice for hungry indie admirers,Ó this charming debut by Jason Courtlund and Julia Halperin explores the age-old challenges of marriage, success...and fungi.
Now, Forager follows Lucien and Regina, a young, fringe-dwelling couple attempting to eke out a living by foraging wild mushrooms and selling them to New York City restaurants. ItŐs a life both simple and unstable, and Regina eventually finds herself tiring of the grind. When her desire for the stability of a restaurant job clashes with LucienŐs devotion to full-time foraging, however, the relationship goes from delicious to distant faster than you can say chanterelle.
