At the 2006 International Astronomical Union General Assembly in Prague, Pluto
was reclassified as a Dwarf Planet. This
decision was highly controversial among the general public then and now. We'd been there
and done that back in the 19th century with asteroids.
Dr. Pogge will discuss the science and history behind the reclassification of Pluto, and describe
how the new classification has important implications for our understanding of the origin of our Solar System.
