From the green grass at the center of Horseshoe, the cheering of the crowd at halftime is deafening. The scarlet and gray in the stands, overwhelming. And the sound of the crowd singing "Carmen Ohio"? Divine.
When Brian Thompson remembers dotting the "i" before the Buckeyes beat Michigan last November, "my hair stands on end and excitement runs down my spine."
The experience, he says, was "without a doubt the single most amazing/exciting/humbling/intense/happy/proud moment of my life thus far. Being singled out in front of 105,000 people is an overwhelming adrenaline rush.
"Can heaven be found on a football field?" he asks.
Thompson--a June 2006 Ohio State grad who now works as a project engineer at Edison Welding Institute--will be front and center in a new way during football games this year. He's featured in the university public service announcement that will play on television during halftime.
Thompson's father went to Ohio State, and even as a child, Thompson says, he knew he wanted to be a Buckeye: "To me there was simply nothing else."
Look for Thompson this fall on TV--and maybe you'll also see him at a skull session or the game.
"Many of my friends this year will be dotting the 'i,' and I cannot wait to cheer them on, to be one of those 105,000 people screaming my head off."
