Nearly 2,700 military veterans study and work at Ohio State. On Veterans Day, the university thanks them for their service.
Before she came to Ohio State, Sergeant Anna Rice spent eight years in the Army, including time in Iraq.
Rice, a senior studying psychology, is part of a larger community on campus: Nearly 2,700 students, faculty, and staff are military veterans. Last year, she served as president of Vets 4 Vets, an Ohio State student organization established to ease veterans' transitions to campus life.
"It's a community," Rice says. "It’s nice having people to relate to. We're not coming straight from high school. We’re kind of a different walk of life."
In honor of Veterans Day, here are some Ohio State resources and honors for military Buckeyes:
- The Veterans' House is a renovated fraternity house with room for 17 students. (Support the house.)
- The Arnold Skurow Student Veteran Award is awarded to three to five student veterans annually, based on academic excellence, community service, and leadership. (Support the scholarship.)
- Remembrance Park is a public memorial space at the corner of Tuttle Park Place and Woody Hayes Drive, featuring an Honor Brick walkway and a Wall of Honor and Remembrance.
