As seen on TV

September 11, 2013

Ohio State's game-day TV spot shines a spotlight on the student experience.

Ohio State is home to more than 63,000 students committed to changing the world. We're ranked in the top 20 public universities. And we're on the rise, with future-focused faculty and researchers on the cutting edge of education.

The result? More than ever, students want to be Buckeyes. (Get the facts: Applications are at an all-time high and the Class of 2017 is projected to be the brightest ever in terms of ACT scores and class rankings.)

Find out why Ohio State attracts some of the nation's best students--and use #OSUinspires to tell us how Ohio State inspires you!

Inspiring place: Some Buckeyes brag that Ohio State is a city unto itself--and it's true that campus is bustling. We have state-of-the-art rec centers and libraries; an Ohio Union that serves more 1,000 student groups; and "homes" like Residence on 10th, a green building that houses second-year students. Venture off campus and you'll discover that Columbus is a vibrant city with a robust arts and food scene. And Ohio State students have plenty of opportunities to become Columbus locals, from the Ohio Union's d-tix program for cheap tickets to campus/city service events like Community Commitment.

Inspiring people: At Ohio State, undergrads can take courses from faculty who are changing the world, like climate change pioneers Lonnie and Ellen Thompson, both Distinguished University Professors. And through Digital First, Ohio State is blazing a trail with mobile technology.

Inspiring arts: The Wexner Center for the Arts brings in artists like Annie Leibovitz and Isabella Rossellini. The Urban Arts Space gives Ohio State students and faculty a downtown Columbus venue for their work. Ohio State even has a library dedicated to cartoon art. (Fall to-do: See the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum in its new digs at Sullivant Hall.) Next up: an arts district.

Inspiring hands-on learning: Ohio State students learn a lot in class--but they don't stop there. Biology major Julie Corbett recently spent a year studying chemotherapy-related pain at Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center, thanks to a Pelotonia Research Fellowship for undergrads. And internships give students real-world experience before they graduate. (See how Fisher College of Business marketing major Rebecca Stubler helped rebrand a store in just one week.)

Inspiring global experiences: With three Global Gateways around the world and more than 100 study abroad programs, Ohio State offers students opportunities to become world citizens. Korbin Smith, a senior majoring in respiratory therapy, spent his summer in Ethiopia, working with fellow Buckeyes to stop rabies through Ohio State's One Health Summer Institute, a partnership between Ohio State and Ethiopian colleagues. (Fun fact: Smith isn't just a research star; he's also a four-time Big Ten champ in long jump and relay racing--and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and three-time Ohio State scholar athlete.)

Inspiring traditions: From Script Ohio to Carmen Ohio, when Buckeyes do tradition, we do it big. Bursting with Buckeye pride? Join the 12,000+ students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends who've shared an O-H-I-O photo.
