Meet the 2012 DICE Interns

In its third year, the Development Internship for Career Exploration accepted nine undergraduate and graduate students for employment in the Office of University Development. Though they hailed from a variety of backgrounds and are involved in many different areas of study, the interns came together for the summer to learn about fund raising and nonprofit work at Ohio State.

Jessica Block College: Education and Human Ecology Major: Consumer and Family Financial Services Minor: Business Graduation: Spring 2013 DICE unit: Fisher College of Business Hobbies: Volunteering, playing tennis, lacrosse, horseback riding, having fun with friends, and watching movies. Interests or career goals: Being able to work with a company full time while going to graduate school. Personal goals during DICE: I would like to learn and understand more clearly about how money is managed and how it is utilized to help other people.	Marissa Cooper College: College of Arts and Sciences Major: Public Affairs, The John Glenn School of Public Affairs Minor: Philosophy, Community Organization and Civic Management Graduation: Spring 2013 DICE unit: Arts and Sciences Hobbies: Reading, exploring Columbus, and hanging out with friends. Interests or career goals: I plan to attend law school after graduation and eventually work in legal representation for underprivileged populations. Personal goal during DICE: I would like to learn more about university development, networking, and how to work effectively for philanthropic purposes.
Christine Donovan College: The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law (J.D.) and the John Glenn School of Public Affairs (M.A.) Major: J.D. - and M.A. - Public Policy and Management Graduation: May 2013 DICE unit: Moritz College of Law Hobbies: Reading, traveling, studying and speaking Spanish and other Romance languages; volunteering (Public Interest Law Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Immigration Counseling Services); walking and running; wedding planning; playing guitar poorly and singing acceptably; super-couponing. Interests or career goals: I aim to work in the nonprofit sector in a management or development capacity, ideally with an organization that focuses on education. In the short term, I hope to work in Columbus and central Ohio. Ultimately, I would like to shift to an international focus. Personal goal during DICE: I hope to gain an understanding of the many stages of stewardship that the Moritz’s Development team engages. To do this, I want to see the Moritz team in meetings with donors and to debrief those meetings and the other elements of relationship building with the Moritz team. As a current Moritz student, I hope to provide perspective about the interests and concerns of Moritz alumni in a way that helps the college in the future.	Emilie Fetheroff College: College of Arts and Sciences Major: Psychology Minor: Disability Studies Graduation: Spring 2014  DICE unit: Corporate and Foundation Relations Hobbies: Volunteering, trying new restaurants, cooking, going for walks and spending time with friends. Interests or career goals: My family was personally touched by the Make-A- Wish Foundation. After graduation, I hope to work for Make-A-Wish where I will use my passion for the cause to give back to deserving children. Eventually, I intend to earn a master’s degree in public administration, higher education or school counseling. Personal goals during DICE: I hope to gain confidence in fundraising strategies and develop communication skills with potential donors. I also hope to obtain an inside perspective on non-profits through firsthand experience while developing new relationships and networking skills. I am excited to grow in professional and personal ways!
James Larcus College: Education and Human Ecology Major: Sport Industry Minor: Leadership Graduation: Spring 2013 DICE unit: Athletics Hobbies: Working out, playing sports, watching movies, life chats with friends, acts of kindness/service. Interests or career goals: University Administration job working with, developing, and empowering students to advance our university, as well as surrounding communities. Personal goals during DICE: Acquire new insights into an aspect of higher education that I am interested in, as well as learn more about my leadership style and philosophy. Ultimately this understanding of myself, and the dynamic I have with others, will allow me to gain clarity of my future. This internship will overall be a fantastic learning experience for me.	Ricardo Pena College: Social Work Major: Social Work Minors: Leadership Graduation: Spring 2013 DICE unit: James Cancer Center, Pelatonia Hobbies: Running, TV-shows, and dogs. Interests or career goals: Post graduation I wish to seek a full time position as an event planner for a non-profit organization. I also, if given the appropriate opportunity, would like to someday attend graduate school for public affairs. Personal goals during DICE: To learn as much as I can about event planning, networking, and to do the best of my ability in all the tasks that come across my desk.
Alexandra Rossmann College: College of Arts and Sciences Major: Psychology Minor: Sociology/ Womens Gender and Sexuality studies Graduation: Spring 2013 DICE unit: Donor Relations  Hobbies: I enjoy spending time with family and friends, swimming, scrap booking, and watching movies and TV series on Netflix. I am also a member of Student-Alumni Council and enjoy working on service opportunities on and around campus. Interests or career goals: After graduation, I plan on attending graduate school to pursue a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration. I would love to work in development or student affairs at a university in the future. Building relationships that will allow for opportunities that will better the student experience is something that I am very passionate about! Personal goals during DICE: I hope to develop a better understanding of development, fundraising, and philanthropy throughout the program. I also hope to successfully complete my project and build lasting professional relationships.	Jessica Walker College: Education and Human Ecology Major: Human Development and Family Science Graduation: Spring 2013 DICE unit: College of Medicine Hobbies: Spending time with friends, exploring new places in and around the Columbus area, volunteering, reading, and relaxing. Interests or career goals: After graduation I plan to take off a year to volunteer abroad. After that, I hope to attend graduate school for either Counseling or Higher Education. Personal goals during DICE: I want to learn as much as I can about development to explore the possibility of pursuing higher education in graduate school. I also hope to learn and network with my peers and the people that I will be working with at the Medical Center.
Jodi Wildermuth Major: M.A. - College Student Personnel Graduation: Spring 2014 DICE unit: College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Hobbies: Traveling, farming, showing livestock, watching OSU sports! Interests or career goals: I would love to work at a college or university in some sort of college student personnel role. I have many interests including admissions, advising, study abroad, and development amongst a few others. My ultimate goal would be to work in one of these capacities in a college/ department with an agriculture emphasis. Personal goals during DICE: Create networks with peers and mentors and gain a well-rounded and thorough understanding of the fundraising and development aspect of higher education.
