Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens is a 60-acre green reserve located at The Ohio State University. We provide outreach, education, and a living laboratory of more than 2,000 plants from around the world to students, staff, and the community.
In the past year, Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens facilitated several meaningful sustainability initiatives at Ohio State:
- Earned Tree Campus USA certification for Ohio State, generating an inventory of more than 10,000 trees on campus.
- Diverted more than two tons of plastic pots from the landfill (they are not recyclable through conventional means) during the annual pot recycling event in June.
- Raised more than $200,000 toward the installation of a 13,000-square-foot green roof on Howlett Hall (scheduled to be completed in fall 2012).
- Calculated and displayed the economical value of established trees on the Oval for the Trees of the Oval Walking Tour.
