Frequently Asked Questions

What is the President's Club?

The President's Club was founded in 1963 to recognize individuals who provide the philanthropic support and volunteer leadership required for The Ohio State University to be one of the world's truly great universities. To read more about the President’s Club, please download the President’s Club Brochure

Who is recognized by the President's Club?

The President's Club recognizes individuals who support academics, health sciences, and the arts at The Ohio State University with cumulative annual giving of at least $2,500 each calendar year.

How do I continue to be recognized by the President's Club?

President's Club recognition is the result of annual leadership gifts of $2,500 or more over the course of each calendar year to areas across the university representing academics, health sciences, and the arts. Contributions must meet or exceed this total by December 31 in order for President's Club recognition and benefits to continue in the subsequent calendar year. For example, donors who have contributed their minimum $2,500 (cumulative during 2012) by December 31, 2012, will continue to be recognized in 2013.

If a donor's contributions consist of a matching gift from his or her employer, we recommend checking on the company's distribution policy for matching gifts. We also recommend making gifts as early in the year as possible, since matching gifts must be received by December 31 to qualify for President's Club recognition.

Do gifts to the Buckeye Club or other funds in the Department of Athletics count toward my recognition in the President's Club?

To eliminate confusion with regard to the similarities/differences between the Buckeye Club and the President's Club, the President's Club recognizes only gifts to academics, health sciences, and the arts at The Ohio State University. Gifts to the Department of Athletics, such as those to the Buckeye Club, will not count toward recognition in the President's Club.

If you wish to participate in both the Buckeye Club and the President's Club, you may make annual contributions of $2,500 or more to academics, the health sciences, or the arts in addition to your annual Buckeye Club gift to the Athletic Advancement Fund.

Can my organization or business join the President's Club?

No. The President's Club is an individual recognition society.

Is there lifetime recognition in the President's Club?

In 2008, the President's Club was restructured and lifetime recognition was discontinued. All President's Club donors who reached lifetime status prior to that change are recognized permanently as Legacy donors of the President's Club. In addition, individuals who are Legacy donors are recognized within the President's Club annual recognition levels in years that they contribute $2,500 or more to academics, health sciences, or the arts.

Are IRA distributions eligible for President's Club recognition?

IRA distributions are not eligible for President’s Club recognition, cannot be used to renew annual recognition, and cannot be used to pay on pledges for fulfillment of previous lifetime recognition commitments.

How are ticket points impacted by gifts of IRA distributions?

Contributions from IRA distributions are not included in ticket point calculations.

Who do I contact to find out more about making a gift via an IRA distribution?

Please contact Ohio State’s Office of Gift Planning via phone at (614) 292-2183 or (800) 327-7907 or e-mail, or visit the Gift Planning web site for more information.

Do matching contributions from my employer count towards my recognition in the President's Club?

Matching gifts are eligible for President's Club recognition, provided that such recognition and benefits are not prohibited by your company's policies. However, the matching gift cannot be calculated for enrollment or recognition until the matching funds are received by the university.

A matching gift will be added to the contribution total of the calendar year in which the funds are received by the university, not necessarily the year in which you made the original gift. This may result in the matching gift being credited for President's Club recognition in a different year than the original gift.
