Creating 'neurotechnology hub.' The Ohio Third Frontier Commission awarded $21.6 million to Ohio State to form the Neurotechnology Innovations Translator. Dr. Ali Rezai is lead investigator of the cutting-edge initiative to create neurotechnology companies and high-tech jobs in Ohio.

Accelerating cancer discoveries. The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute and the Moffitt Cancer Center are developing the Oncology Research Information Exchange Network, which will accelerate more precise cancer treatments, diagnostics and prevention methods.

Neurobridge breakthrough stuns world. The collaborative work of researchers at Ohio State and Battelle has enabled a paralyzed man to move his hand independently using his thoughts. The breakthrough gives hope to millions with paralysis and is receiving news coverage around the globe.

EcoCAR 2 team earns nation's top spot. Students and faculty in the Center for Automotive Research placed first in a three-year U.S. Department of Energy competition to improve the environmental impact and energy efficiency of already-efficient vehicles. The team's Chevrolet Malibu featured exceptionally engineered energy storage, electric drive and ethanol-fueled engine technology.

National champs - again. The women's rowing team claimed its second consecutive NCAA championship this spring. This is the fifth national championship for the team overall.

HUD awards $30M for neighborhood project. Ohio State, the city of Columbus and the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority were awarded a $30 million federal grant to create housing, jobs, education programs and support services on the Near East Side.

Buck-I-SERV breaks record. Student Life's alternative spring break service program had a record-breaking 1,001 participants and 71 trips to national and international locations. Ohio State's spring break service program is the nation's largest.

Sharing sharp analysis. Faculty and PhD students in the Fisher College of Business made headlines nationally when they discovered sales at Amazon.com fell 10 percent in states where it collected sales tax. Businessweek described their research as "one of the first efforts" to measure the effect of sales tax on e-tailers.

High-tech education leader. The Office of Distance Education and eLearning (ODEE) has been recognized internationally as a leader in using technology in education. The New Media Consortium gave its highest honor to Ohio State's Digital First Initiative. Also, the state awarded a $13.5 million grant to ODEE to implement technology that helps K-12 school districts in Ohio.
