The Goal: Preparing Students for Jobs While Building Ohio’s Knowledge Economy

Two pillars support today’s fast-emerging knowledge economy: well-prepared students who comprise a competitive workforce, and innovative ideas and discoveries that drive technology and create intellectual capital. The key to both is a top-tier research university like Ohio State.

In fact, every state and region considered a leader in the new knowledge economy hosts such a university. As part of its historic land-grant mission, Ohio State aspires to lead the transformation of Ohio’s economy—impacting Ohio’s knowledge economy as it has long led in the development of agriculture and manufacturing.

Impact Ohio: An Academic Plan for the 21st Century is the initial roadmap to realize this goal by making Ohio State one of the world’s truly great universities. Ohio’s economy and Ohio’s citizens will benefit from this plan in many ways.

Students Benefit

Students will benefit from an enhanced teaching and learning environment that includes transformation of the library into a learning center for the Information Age, state-of-the-art classroom space, access to the latest technology, and more attractive buildings and grounds. Year-round higher admission standards will continue to strengthen the caliber of undergraduates attending Ohio State. Increased course accessibility; smaller classes; more ample need-based and merit-based aid; better academic programming, advising, and career counseling; and more scholars programs will also benefit undergraduate students. Meanwhile, graduate and professional students will benefit from more competitive financial aid and fellowship support packages.
