Foundation of Plan: Academic Excellence

Impact Ohio: An Academic Plan for the 21st Century is all about academic excellence. More than a year in the making, and prepared with extensive participation from the university community, the Plan outlines strategies and initiatives to elevate the university’s academic standing. That will help achieve our overarching goal of becoming one of the world’s truly great universities.

Today, Ohio State is perceived as having good, but not outstanding, academics. While we need to continuously improve in many areas, we will never be a truly great university without dramatically enhancing the reality and perception of the teaching and learning and research and scholarship we do—and without the service activities that flow from our excellence in these endeavors.

We are addressing this challenge in a rapidly changing environment. Each day our world becomes more global and more urban, fueled by technologies that only a few years ago would have been viewed as science fiction. We must also face the reality that Ohio receives and spends less per student than the universities against which we benchmark ourselves.
