Support Key to Making Impact Ohio Plan a Reality
To implement Impact Ohio: An Academic Plan for the 21st Century
over the next five years will require significant resourcesan
estimated $100 million or more in continuing funds and $400 million
or more in one-time expenditures. These resources must come from
a partnership among the university, state government, students
and their families, and the private sector.
Already, the university has moved boldly to do its part by:
Reallocating existing funds, aligning them with current
priorities
Completing a successful $1.23 billion campaign that laid
the groundwork for additional, targeted fundraising efforts
Becoming a national leader in industry grants.
But we cannot do it alone. We also need help from state government
and other partners. One major need is the temporary lifting of
the tuition cap, which is discussed separately in this brochure.
Another is for the governor and general assembly to support the
Ohio Board of Regents recommended budget proposals for the
2001-02 biennium. These include:
Improved baseline support of Ohios colleges and universities
(today, Ohio ranks 40th in state support for higher education)
Additional funding of the Research Challenge and Success
Challenge
The Ohio Plan, a breakthrough initiative through which
Ohios universities would make the state a leader in biotechnology,
information technology and nanotechnology
Both the temporary lifting of the tuition cap and the Regents
proposals are essential to propel Ohio into the new knowledge
economy while benefiting our students and improving the quality
of life for every Ohioan.
