Scholarship Recipient, Riley Jantz

Riley Jantz

"I grew up in Avon Lake, Ohio, just west of Cleveland. I attended Avon Lake High School where I ran track and cross-country, was the field commander of the marching band and active member of the choral program. I have three younger sisters back home, so this scholarship will not only help me, but will help them in the long run because it will hopefully take a little burden off their shoulders once they go to college. My family is the most important part of my life and I would not be here without the constant support from them to help me get to this point.

I chose Ohio State because of the immense opportunity offered at a university of this size. I love the atmosphere at a large school because of the passion for learning I see all around me everyday. I am a resident advisor in Smith-Steeb Hall on campus, a leadership role that will produce great returns in the future for me as I pursue a career in teaching. I sing in the men's glee club on campus and recently we traveled to New York City to sing at Lincoln Center, an experience I will not soon forget.

As I look to my future after The Ohio State University, the prospect of getting to impact America's youth and help to create a brighter future brings a smile to my face. Education and learning are two of the few passions I have in my life, so to have the opportunity to impress those values on my future students is something that excites me. The John and Linda Mercer Scholarship will help me to further pursue these goals. For that, I am sincerely grateful. Donors who support scholarships that benefit students are truly changing lives."
