'Welcome Week' Welcomes First-Year Students to Columbus

Rendition of the new norht campus

As excited first-year students arrived on campus to start their first semester at The Ohio State University, they were encouraged to attend 'Welcome Week,' a week of more than 100 planned events to inform students and help them make good choices in the very first week of their time as a Buckeye.

All 7,000 first-year students of the class of 2019 were bused downtown from campus to Nationwide Arena to learn about the city they will call home during their Ohio State careers. The 'First-Year Student Columbus Welcome' introduced Ohio State's newest class to many of the great sites, attractions and opportunities our wonderful city has to offer through a high-energy, multimedia production featuring key community leaders and alumni. 'First-Year Student Columbus Welcome' took place on Monday, August 24, at Nationwide Arena with a purpose to encourage students to take advantage of the wealth of opportunities that exist just beyond campus in one of the countries premier cities, Columbus.

Notable leaders in the Columbus community hosted the event, including: Dr. Javaune Adams-Gaston, vice president for student life, Ohio State; Dolan Evanovich, vice president for strategic enrollment planning, Ohio State; Alex Fischer, president and CEO, Columbus Partnership; Tom Katzenmeyer, president, Greater Columbus Arts Council; Doug Kridler, president and CEO, The Columbus Foundation; and Brian Ross, president and CEO, Experience Columbus.
