Wendt Scholarship is a "blessing"

Peter, left, with his family

A junior studying electrical and computer engineering, Peter talks to us about why he chose Ohio State, what he's been doing here, and how The David Allan and Rosemarie Wendt Scholarship has helped make it all more amazing.

What has your scholarship meant to you and your family?
This scholarship has been an unbelievable blessing for my family. My parents were fortunate and generous enough to pay for my college so that I wouldn’t have to worry about finances while studying, and this scholarship has been a way of taking that burden off of them. I’m now able to pursue my education without my family incurring more debt.

What was it like to meet Rosemarie Wendt?
It was really wonderful. I was able to tell her how much I appreciated what she’s done for me, and I hope that she was able to understand my gratitude, but I’m not sure how well words can convey what it really means to me.

Why did you choose Ohio State?
I decided to go to Ohio State because of the rich tradition that exists here and the strong engineering program. I knew when I was picking a school that I needed to be challenged academically, and I wanted a school that celebrated its history. I found that in Ohio State. The engineering program is nationally ranked, and I’ve never seen a more proud community than the buckeye community.

Have you Paid Forward what you've been given?
Last spring I had the opportunity to go on a spring break trip to Appalachian Tennessee with a Christian student organization, h2o. We partnered with an organization called Mountain T.O.P. that helps community members do necessary maintenance on their homes that they couldn’t otherwise afford. For a week we were able to go out into the community and help with construction and repairs for people who needed it.

It may seem like a long way off, but what are your plans for after graduation?
Right now, I’m really hoping to work in the tech industry after graduation. I look at the ways technology is changing the world and making people’s lives better, and I want to be a part of that.

Among your successes at Ohio State, what are your proudest moments?
My proudest accomplishment at The Ohio State University is becoming a Resident Advisor. For me, being an RA is a small way of empowering incoming freshman to have the same extraordinary experience I’ve had at Ohio State. I remember as a freshman all of the programs my RA put on to make me feel like a part of the Ohio State family, and now I’m able to pay it forward to current freshman.
