The Cox Family Memorial Scholarship

StinsonFamily

The Cox Family Memorial Scholarship was established in 2009 with gifts from Mr. James and Vicki Cox and Ms. Lou Ann Cox Shy. The Cox Family Memorial Scholarship supports a merit- and need-based first-year undergraduate student by providing at least $1,000 to sons or daughters of members of Local 683 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers or graduates of Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Ohio.

Jim's grandfather, father, two brothers, brother-in-law and nephew are proud Ohio State alumni. Jim is a longtime member of the Local 683 Electrician's Union and worked on several electrical jobs at Ohio State. Several decades ago, a member of the Local 683 Union expressed the importance of every son or daughter of a Local 683 Union member to obtain a college education. For 20 years, every Local 683 Union member gave 10 cents of his or her hourly paycheck to this effort. Jim and Vicki's children benefitted from this fundraising effort he scholarship they established in 2009 is a way to pay forward the generosity that was given to them.

The Cox family points out that they aren't particularly wealthy people, but of all the ways to spend their money, there is never a bad penny spent helping kids get an education at Ohio State.
