Scholarship helps Mabel land a Big Four position

William with his wife Lenae

If you know any aspiring accountants, you've probably heard of the "Big Four" accounting firms in the country. Through her hard work and the support of the Wolfe Family Scholarship, Mabel Wu secured a position with one of these dream companies while being an active Buckeye on campus.

"I want to share my sincere gratitude for the support The Wolfe Family Scholarship has brought me over the years. Beyond the monetary value of the scholarship, the support I receive from those who believe in my potential has allowed me to thrive at Ohio State. In addition to focusing on academics, I have been able to engage in so much beyond the classroom!

I recently completed the Master of Accounting program as part of my combined BSBA-MAcc degree. Over a four-year period, I completed both my bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting. I graduated at spring commencement, and now I will be studying to complete my Certified Public Accountant exam this summer. It will be rigorous, but I hope to finish the certification exams before I start working full-time in October.

I have accepted a full-time offer with Deloitte, a Big Four public accounting firm. I will be working in the New York City office, and I could not be more excited to start my career in the big city! Networking at Ohio State definitely helped me get to this point, and I couldn't imagine my college experience anywhere else.

Beyond academics, I was the community service chair for MAcc Council, meaning I planned and coordinated all volunteer efforts for our 80-person class. I planned FETCH! (financial education teaches children healthy habits, a board game in the classroom to teach students about budgeting), VITA (volunteer income tax assistance program, where students help low income individuals file tax returns for free) -and MAcc Gives Back (a day for students and faculty to volunteer at five different volunteer sites), among other things.

I also ran my first marathon in Columbus this past October. I ran the half marathon in 2013 and decided to pursue what would be one of my biggest accomplishments to date. I was never an athletic individual in high school, but my time at Ohio State has improved my lifestyle in that I try to balance my life as a student while keeping healthy habits like exercising and getting adequate sleep.

I could not have had such an amazing college experience so far without all the continued support I have had over the years. Thank you again for all of your support; it truly motivates me knowing that others believe in my potential. Go Bucks!"
