An international student's OSU experience

Eryn Clause

"As intimidating as OSU seems at first, with an overwhelmingly large campus and student body that seems to swallow you whole, it's surprisingly very easy to settle into a place and find a little niche for yourself. It's been a little more than a year since I set foot in this country, and I already feel like I belong here, and that my environment belongs to me.

Being a double major in Math and English, I get to interact with students across the spectrum. What seems amazing to me is that despite the similarities between people, every single person is unique; and participating in small clubs for students with shared interests seems to emphasize this observation.

My plan for the future is to conduct research in the field of mathematical biology, and use models to approach problems at a cellular level.

The Heiligmann International Scholarship means a different thing for every semester at Ohio State. Currently, it implies that I can afford to invest my time in developing my skills in order to conduct research instead of looking for a job. Next semester, the funds, added to my paychecks will contribute to my tuition. On a more personal level, in the long run, it will serve as part of my monetary contribution to paying for college.

I have the utmost respect and appreciation for philanthropists who manage to fulfill the dreams of dozens of students who wish to attain the best education that schools have to offer. I do hope that I too, as an alumnus, will be able to give back to OSU, what it has given me."
