New endowment fund will honor President Holbrook

Contributions to commemorate her tenure and benefit students

The Ohio State University is honoring outgoing president Karen A. Holbrook by establishing an endowed fund in her name.

The fund, which recognizes Holbrook for her distinguished tenure and leadership as the 13th president of Ohio State, was announced by Executive Vice President and Provost Barbara Snyder during a campus-wide farewell reception for Holbrook.

Holbrook will retire from the university on June 30. During her five year tenure, Ohio State made measurable progress in areas including academic and research rankings, student achievement and retention, and partnerships.

The Karen A. Holbrook Fund will support two of Holbrook's special interests: research at the undergraduate level and scholarships to support study abroad. Under Holbrook's leadership, both areas have been enhanced and are positioned for significant growth. During her presidency, the university created a new Undergraduate Research Office to encourage and coordinate the many opportunities for undergraduates to do research at Ohio State. And there is a renewed effort to increase the number of undergraduates who participate in study abroad, from the current level of approximately 20 percent to 25 percent. One of the biggest issues for students who wish to study abroad is funding, which the Holbrook endowment will address.
