Ohio State opens new Office of Military and Veteran Student Service
Students can access their educational benefits as well as academic services
Military and veteran students at The Ohio State University have a new, comprehensive office that caters specifically to their needs. Ohio State’s new Office of Military and Veterans Services, office assists students with accessing their educational benefits and the university resources they need for academic success. The office is located in room 185 of the Student Academic Services Building at 281 W. Lane Ave.
Media are welcome to attend an open house at the new office at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25 and talk to students and staff.
The new office is the latest in a series of Ohio State initiatives to serve military and veteran students. Other resources include a veterans house (a housing option for students who are veterans, active duty, reserves and National Guard), a veterans student organization and a conference on teaching student veterans in the classroom.
There are nearly 2,000 military or veteran students who are enrolled at Ohio State and using their education G.I Bill benefits, along with over 1,000 faculty and staff who are also veterans.
In addition to assisting students with educational and academic resources, the office also provides military and veteran orientations, focused academic counseling, tailored support services, and the education of faculty and staff on military student issues.
In addition, the office partners with external agencies and resources such as the local Veterans Administration and the State Department of Veterans Services to ease the transition from military member to civilian and college student.
