Ohio State University celebrates with Buckeyes in Cincinnati
Events bring together alumni and friends for "But for Ohio State" fundraising campaign
The Ohio State University will bring well-known Buckeyes to Cincinnati on Saturday, April 13 for a series of events as part of its But for Ohio State: The Campaign for The Ohio State University.
Through the But for Ohio State campaign, Ohio State intends to raise $2.5 billion to sustain and advance Ohio State as one of the nationís premier public research universities. Launched in Columbus in October, this is the first time the university has taken its campaign celebration beyond Columbus.
There are 4,550 Ohio State students and nearly 19,000 alumni in southwestern Ohio, which includes Brown, Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren counties. In Cincinnati on Saturday, Buckeyes will gather not only to generate excitement for the campaign in the region, but also to celebrate the university's success with the many Ohio State alumni and friends in southwest Ohio.
As part of the celebration, the football team will play the spring game at Paul Brown Stadium. Paul Brown Stadium is named for Bengals founder and former Ohio State football coach Paul Brown. The 2013 LiFESports Spring game begins at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at OhioStateBuckeyes.com. The Ohio State University Alumni Association will help create a game-day atmosphere with a Buckeye Bash from 11 a.m. to noon on the plaza outside the stadium.
That evening, Ohio State will host an invitation-only event for supporters of the university and volunteers. The event will feature prominent alumni from the Cincinnati area and across the nation, highlighting their stories about how Ohio State helped them become leaders in their field and address issues impacting the world. Guests will also hear from Dr. Ali Rezai and other Ohio State star researchers and faculty, along with Archie Griffin, Aaron Craft and Ohio State's spring athletic band.
One of the nation's most comprehensive universities, Ohio State has the capacity, talent and research agenda to discover and create solutions that have enormous impact on hundreds of millions of people.
Through the campaign, Ohio State will fund five priority areas:

*Elevating Faculty and Academic Enterprise
*Creating Modern Learning Environments
*Emboldening our Research Agenda
*Driving High-Impact Innovation
Janet Reid, a member of The Ohio State University Board of Trustees from Cincinnati, underscores the importance of the campaign.
"Since our founding in 1870, The Ohio State University has grown to become one of the nation's premier public research universities. Its impact on our state and beyond is incalculable. The university has real momentum and is making extraordinary progress on many fronts," said Reid. "The But for Ohio State campaign will empower the university to reach new heights, as we continue our journey to become the best public university in the country," she continued.
Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee says the campaign will allow Ohio State to implement visionary new ideas.
"Ohio State belongs to Ohio's citizens. This campaign will enable us to fulfill our land-grant mission to be the front door to the American dream for the talented young people in this state and beyond. And it will enable us to garner the resources necessary to address the grand challenges of our 21st-century global society."
The campaign will further strengthen the university's solid financial condition and provide even greater flexibility for Ohio State to tackle complex global problems related to food production and security, health and wellness, and energy and the environment. The campaign will also enable the university to implement visionary new ideas for the student experience.
"The But for Ohio State campaign will help provide the resources that allow us to become an even more agile, responsive university in service to our community, our state, our global society and our students," says Michael Eicher, senior vice president for advancement and president of The Ohio State University Foundation.
This is the largest campaign in the university's history. Other regional events are planned throughout the country to celebrate the campaign, which is scheduled to conclude in June 2016.
