MEDIA ADVISORY: Ohio State’s Eddie George Participates in Tobacco Free Effort

Assisting with Cigarette Butt and Litter Cleanup

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University’s Tobacco Free effort, in conjunction with the United Way of Central Ohio Volunteer Challenge, will participate in a cigarette butt and litter Cleanup initiative. This is a city-wide event intended to inspire, mobilize and challenge central Ohioans to find volunteer opportunities to help Columbus build a more proud and engaged community. The challenge will connect individuals to a variety of volunteer occasions that fit their passions and interests.

The project will draw volunteers to the Neil-Eighth-Cannon-King Organization (NECKO) neighborhood adjacent to the medical center campus to collect cigarette butts and other litter. Participants will determine the total number of cigarette butts collected and properly recycle them. Volunteers will be provided with gloves, bags, safety vests, grabbers and shovels.
