Fancy footwork at the Wexner Center -- April 4. Tap dancer Savion Glover will offer an informal tap demonstration for more than 1,500 youngsters at Mershon Auditorium at noon on Tuesday (4/4). Glover, making his first return to Columbus since his 1997 creative residency at the Wexner Center, brings his new show, SAVION! In Concert, to the Palace Theatre on April 4 and 5. The national touring production features Glover performing with such tap legends as Jimmy Slyde and Buster Brown. Glover will also sign copies of his new book, Savion: My Life in Tap, an autobiography for ages 9-12, with a foreword by Glover's early mentor, tap dancer Gregory Hines.

Programs raise awareness of disability issues -- April 4-28. Ohio State's Office for Disability Services is reaching out to the university community through a series of programs and workshops designed to foster a greater understanding of disability issues on campus and in society during Disability Awareness Month. More than 1,500 students with disabilities are enrolled Ohio State. Events include:

APRIL 6 -- College Day for High School Students With Learning Disabilities -- 9 a.m. to noon, Ohio Union Conference Theatre, 1739 N. High St.

APRIL 11 -- Personal Safety Workshop for Women With Disabilities -- 4-6 p.m., Room 150, Pomerene Hall, 1760 Neil Avenue. The workshop is free, but pre-registration is required.

APRIL 13 -- Career Services Workshop for Students With Disabilities -- 4:30 p.m., Room 150, Pomerene Hall.

APRIL 27 -- Art Fair and Cookout -- 5-7 p.m., Room 150, Pomerene Hall.

New SCITECH tenant relocates from Silicon Valley--April 5. A new tenant of the Science and Technology Campus Corporation (SCITECH) promises to advance Central Ohio and Ohio State to the cutting edge of research in the newly emerging field of medical nanotechnology. The start-up company, which is relocating to Columbus from California's Silicon Valley, will explore products that may replace diabetics' frequent insulin injections with a one-time implantation of tiny silicon capsules beneath the skin. Ohio State President William E. Kirwan; SCITECH President Ora E. Smith; Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman; Mauro Ferrari, Ohio State professor of internal medicine and mechanical engineering and director of the Biomedical Engineering Center; and Carl F. Grove, veteran biotech entrepreneur and a principal of the new SCITECH tenant, will be available for interviews during the special media briefing from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Rhodes Hall Board Room, 450 W. 10th Ave. Media parking will be available in the driveway in front of Rhodes Hall.

Biological detectives ask 'Who Done It?'-- April 5. Faculty from the College of Biological Sciences' Departments of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and their undergraduate students will help Linden McKinley High School biology students find out "Who Done It" using DNA fingerprinting techniques. Department of Theatre undergraduates wrote a crime scene scenario and produced a video that can be used as a teaching tool. This group will bring their roving DNA lab and the "DNA Files" to Linden McKinley High School, 1320 Duxberry Ave., on Wednesday, April 5, from 11:38 a.m. to 1:03 p.m.

What does the future hold for the ADA?-- April 7. Facing the Challenges of the ADA: The First Ten Years and Beyond is a one-day symposium that will bring together prominent law professors, attorneys and social scientists to discuss crucial questions surrounding the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Ohio State Law Journal will publish all symposium papers in the Fall 2000 issue (Volume 62). The symposium is co-sponsored by the Ohio State University College of Law; the Center for Law, Policy, and Social Science at the College of Law, the Ohio State Law Journal, Anderson Publishing Co.; the USX Foundation; the Nisonger Center at Ohio State; and the Office of Faculty Teaching Assistant Development at Ohio State.

Board of Trustees meets in Cincinnati--April 7. The Ohio State University Board of Trustees and its committees will travel to Cincinnati for their regular monthly meeting. The meeting begins at 9:45 a.m. at the Kingsgate Conference Center at the University of Cincinnati, 151 Goodman Drive, Cincinnati.

International Students: It's tax time. Who you gonna call?-- April 8. International students and visiting scholars can get some help filing their taxes this year from students in the College of Law. Students taking international taxation this quarter will help international students prepare their tax returns from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in rooms 348 and 352 of Drinko Hall, 55 W. 12th Ave.
