Leon Sullivan to introduce new investment principles

Initiatives will promote African entrepreneurship

Columbus area community leaders, educators and ministers are invited to meet the Rev. Leon Sullivan, author of the anti-apartheid Sullivan Principles, at an 11:30 a.m. luncheon Wednesday in the Alumni Lounge at the Fawcett Center for Tomorrow, 2400 Olentangy River Road. In a discussion sponsored by Ohio State University's University College, Sullivan will present a new set of principles, recently ratified in Ohio, for investments that will promote African entrepreneurship.

The original Sullivan Principles, composed in 1977, are widely acknowledged as one of the most effective efforts to end discrimination against blacks in the workplace in apartheid South Africa. Last May, Sullivan convened approximately 6,000 international leaders from the political, corporate and educational worlds for the fifth annual African-African American Summit in Ghana, where Secretary of State Madeleine Albright represented the United States. The conference focused on encouraging foreign investment in Africa and the need for new schools and modern medical facilities on that continent.

Later Wednesday, Sullivan will be the keynote speaker at the reopening and dedication of the Hale Center on Ohio State's campus, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Independence Hall Auditorium, 1923 Neil Ave.
