Commencement traffic and parking information
The Ohio State University spring commencement will begin at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow (6/9) on the Oval. More than 30,000 guests are expected to attend commencement. We appreciate any assistance you can give us in relaying this traffic and parking information to those who may be attending.
Road Closures:
· College Road will close from 17th Avenue to 12th Avenue at 3 a.m. in preparation for commencement line-up. College Road is scheduled to re-open at approximately 2 p.m.
· 17th, 18th, and 19th avenues will close at 2:00 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m.
· South Oval Drive, Cunz Hall and the Botany & Zoology lots will close at 2 a.m. for disability parking.
Public Parking
Guests are encouraged to park in the West Campus lots off of Carmack Road (enter from Kenny Road, south of Lane Avenue) and use the free shuttle service to the Oval. There also will be shuttle pick-up and drop-off near Coffey Road and Woody Hayes Drive ("Ag campus"). Other parking options include:
· 12th Avenue and Cannon Drive lots (Polo Fields)
· Lots off Olentangy River Road, south of Lane Avenue
· Lots surrounding the Davis Baseball Stadium, off Arena Drive and Fred Taylor Drive
· All university garages, except those in the Medical Center. (If guests choose to park in 9th Avenue, South Medical, or 12th Avenue, hourly fees will need to be paid.)
Commencement Shuttles
Beginning at 6:30 a.m., free and frequent shuttle buses will take guests to commencement from West Campus and the Ag campus pick-up point. The shuttles will make return trips from 17th Avenue after the ceremony.
Disability Parking
Disability parking is in the Cunz Hall and South Oval Drive areas off Neil Avenue. A permit is required. To make arrangements, call the Office of Commencement and Special Events at (614) 292-9051. Handivans will shuttle guests with disabilities to the Oval throughout the ceremony.
Rain
The ceremony will be held rain or shine, unless weather conditions are dangerous. If inclement weather forces a cancellation, this information will be distributed to all local television and radio stations. WOSU-AM (820 AM) is the official commencement weather reporter, but all stations will be notified. In the case of cancellation, diplomas will be available for pickup later in the day at other campus locations or mailed to graduates.
