Ohio State ready for 2000 Deaf-Blind Conference

COLUMBUS - The summer conference center at The Ohio State University is ready for more than 1,000 visitors who will be attending the American Association of the Deaf-Blind biannual national conference, "21st Century -- Deaf-Blind Moves On!," July 29 to August 4.

Braille signs have been installed around campus at bus stops and on dorm room doors, and a "blue line" that is approximately three city blocks long has been installed to allow conference participants to walk between the dorm rooms and the Ohio Union, where workshops and activities will take place.

The week will offer a variety of educational workshops dealing with the issues of employment, life management, technology, political activities/legislation and leadership/organizations. Tours around the city and surrounding areas will be offered, as well as opportunities to network with participants and professionals from all over the United States.

This conference is especially timely for Ohio since the first AADB convention was held in the Cleveland area in 1975.

The summer conference center is part of housing, food services and event centers in the Office of Student Affairs at Ohio State. This summer the campus will host approximately 125 conferences averaging 26,000 bed nights between June 11 and Sept.1.
