OSU Police honor top officers in ceremony
Anna Stephenson is Officer of the Year

Every day, an estimated 90,000 people–students, teachers and community members–visit The Ohio State University campus. Providing a safe environment for learning, teaching and research is the job of OSU Police.

University Police and University Security services will honor officers and civilians during their 2000 Annual Awards Ceremony at 7:30 p.m. this evening (2/27) at the Fawcett Center, 2400 Olentangy River Road. University Security Services provide security for the Wexner Center and other campus locations.

Officer Anna Stephenson is the 2000 Officer of the Year. According to Vernon Baisden, assistant vice president for public safety, Stevenson is being recognized by her colleagues and peers for her outstanding rape education programs, for promoting positive community relations with international students and for her extraordinary efforts in promoting public safety on campus.

In addition, an officer and citizen will receive a Merit Award and a Citizen Award for their work in a suicide rescue last August. John Welsh, a citizen, and Officer Charlie Haw will be recognized by Baisden, who says “police appreciate the assistance of members of the public, and Welsh really helped get the job in the suicide rescue.”

Other officers and civilians will be recognized for crime and alcohol prevention programs, and for work in resolving particular cases.
