STATEMENT FROM
OHIO STATE MINORITY AFFAIRS VICE PROVOST MAC A. STEWART
REGARDING CONTROVERSIAL ADVERTISEMENT
April 6, 2001

COLUMBUS -- Ohio State's student newspaper, the Lantern, has been approached by the conservative author who has been placing controversial full-page advertisements in student newspapers across the country denouncing calls for reparations for the slavery of African Americans. "While the university's administration is completely in favor of free speech, we are vehemently opposed to speech which is hateful," said Mac Stewart, vice provost for minority affairs. "The Ohio State University will continue to stand strongly on its ideals and values of cultural diversity."
