The entire university community is deeply saddened by the death this morning
of Ryan Morbitzer, an Ohio State sophomore from Grove City. According to Columbus
Police, Ryan was walking down 11th Avenue in the early morning hours
when he was shot in the chest. The motive is not known at this time. He died
in surgery at 5:35 a.m. at the Ohio State Medical Center.
Columbus Police are investigating.
This past week, the university community has experienced two tragedies that have affected many of us in some way, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the families involved. Unfortunately, we live in a society where there are no longer any safe havens from crime and violence. We can only take comfort in our sense of community and support for one another.
