EDDIE GEORGE AND SCOONIE PENN SCORE BIG
Former Buckeye athletes graduate spring quarter

Each year, several Ohio State University student athletes make the decision to turn professional – leaving college before completing their degree. This year, two former Ohio State student athletes, Eddie George and Scoonie Penn, are returning to campus to be recognized for one of their greatest achievements as Buckeyes. George will receive his bachelor of science in landscape architecture and Penn his bachelor’s of science in sociology during the university’s 356th commencement, Friday (6/8) at 9:30 a.m. on the Oval. They are two of 98 former and current athletes who will receive their degrees at the ceremony.

Penn and many other graduating student athletes will gather for a pre-commencement breakfast sponsored by the Department of Athletics from 7:15 to 8:45 a.m. on Friday (6/8) at the Younkin Success Center, 1640 Neil Ave.

George and Penn are not the first Ohio State athletes to return to complete a degree. Former Buckeye and NBA Basketball player Clark Kellogg returned to Ohio State part time in 1983 and earned his bachelor’s degree in business management in 1996. Clark will be presented with the university’s Distinguished Service Award at the spring ceremony. Other notable student athletes who have returned to finish their degrees include football players Tim Spencer, Joey Galloway, Greg Bellisari and Buster Tillman.
