Michael E. Moritz College of Law

·         First classes: Held in 1891 in the Franklin County Courthouse with 33 students, including one woman.

·         First dean: Ohio Supreme Court Justice Marshall J. Williams

·         First location on campus: Orton Hall (1894)

·         Elevated to college status: 1896

·         Charter member of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) in 1901

·         First permanent home on campus: Page Hall (1903), built as a result of a gift from Henry Folsom Page

·         John Deaver Drinko Hall: Current home of College of Law, originally built in 1953, expanded in 1993 following the Centennial Campaign, which raised more than $15 million for renovation and expansion. Named for John Deaver Drinko, a Cleveland lawyer and businessman and a 1944 graduate of the college.

·         Dean: Gregory H. Williams (J.D., M.Phil., Ph.D., George Washington University; M.A., University of Maryland; B.A., Ball State University) has been dean since 1993. Leaving in August to become president of City College of the City University of New York (CUNY), one of the nation’s leading urban public universities.

·         Dean-Designate: Nancy Hardin Rogers (J.D., Yale Law School; B.A., University of Kansas), a full-time faculty member at the College of Law since 1983. Nationally recognized scholar in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution. Appointed by President Clinton to the Legal Services Corporation Board.

·         The College of Law is ranked 17th nationally among public law schools, according to U.S. News and World Report. In addition, the school’s Alternative Dispute Resolution program is ranked among the top four in the country.
