Kemba Smith to discuss responsibility, law with Young Scholars

Although Kemba Smith never sold or abused drugs, her association with her dealing boyfriend led to a more than 24-year prison term. Smith, who was later pardoned by President Bill Clinton, will discuss personal responsibility and the law with about 350 Young Scholars at The Ohio State University at noon on Sunday (7/15) in Weigel Hall, 1866 College Road.  Media are invited to interview Smith from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The Young Scholars, who are underrepresented, economically challenged high school students from urban cities in Ohio, are participating in the Samuel Dubois Cook 2001 Summer Academy from July 8 to 21.   The academy, a partnership between Ohio State and nine urban public school districts, offers the Young Scholars college preparatory course work, personal development activities and career exploration workshops in fields such as medicine, journalism, mathematics and ACT preparation sessions.
