Football parking information for 2001 season

COLUMBUS – Ohio State football fans will find many pleasant surprises await for the season home opener.  In addition to the sparkling stadium renovation, there are no new road construction projects or detours that have occasionally bothered motorists over the last few years.  The season begins with a 12:10 p.m. game against the University of Akron on Saturday (9/8).

The best news comes for holders of season parking permits.  The scheduled closing of the Lane Avenue bridge has been postponed which again makes available the camper parking lots near St. John Arena.  With the stadium renovation complete, 420 parking spaces are again available on the west side of Ohio Stadium.

Despite the lack of unusual obstacles, the best advice for fans is “come early and follow the directions of the officers to available campus parking,” says Beth Kelley, associate director of Transportation and Parking Services.  Since the traffic officers are in constant communication with each other, they know when parking lots are full and can direct motorists to the best available parking.

Public parking: West campus, Schottenstein Center lots and Polo Fields

There is ample public parking on west campus. The lots are on Carmack Road, just west of Kenny Road and south of Lane Avenue. Day-of-game parking is $10 (no charge with an OSU parking permit). Free bus service from west campus begins three hours prior to kickoff and continues until one hour after the game.

Additional public parking is available in the new Buckeye lots north of the Schottenstein Center and in the Polo field at 12th Avenue and Cannon Drive.

Season permit holders
Most parking around the stadium and along Cannon Drive is reserved for football parking permits only. This includes the Northwest Garage and the new Tuttle Park Place garage, as well as lots around St. John Arena, the ice rink, and north of the Fisher College of Business. Season permit holders should follow the directions on the back of their permit to access their priority lot and clearly display their permits in the windshields of their cars to assist officers in directing them to the proper lots.

Disability parking
Parking for persons with disabilities is located in the Cunz Hall lot, located north of 12th Avenue, west of Neil Avenue. A state disability placard, OSU Disability parking pass, or Athletics Disability parking pass is required for entrance. Lift-equipped shuttles will carry fans to Gate 14 of the stadium. Shuttles begin three hours prior to kickoff and run continuously until one hour after the game.

 One-way streets

At least two hours prior to game time -- and sooner if traffic builds up -- some streets on and around campus will become one-way, going toward the stadium. After the game, traffic patterns will be reversed, going one-way away from the stadium. Officers will direct drivers to available parking.

COTA
Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) will again offer park- and-ride service from the fairgrounds and the Crosswoods area. The #2 bus brings fans to campus from the north and south on High Street.
