09-08-93 Public Health Official to Speak NEWS ADVISORY: DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE CORPS TO SPEAK AT OHIO STATE AND AT HEALTH CENTER Donald Weaver, an assistant surgeon general in the Public Health Service and director of the National Health Service Corps, will speak Friday, Sept. 10, at The Ohio State University. His talk begins at 4 p.m., in Room 107 in Hamilton Hall, 1645 Neil Avenue. Weaver will speak about the role of the National Health Service Corps and preventive medicine in American health care. The National Health Service Corps is a branch of the U.S. Public Health Service. It provides health care to inner cities, rural areas, and other underserved areas of the nation. Field programs give medical, nursing, dental, and other health students professional experience while serving the poor and underserved. Earlier on Friday, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., in the conference room at the ECCO Family Health Center, 1166 E. Main Street, Weaver will participate in a roundtable session with state, local, and university experts to discuss health programs for underserved populations. The roundtable discussion is open to the news media; the talk at Ohio State is free and open to the public. Weaver's presentation is sponsored by Ohio State's Department of Preventive Medicine and the university's Preventive Medicine Alumni Society.
