10-5-93 Chairs Announced for Local Council

NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN ANNOUNCES REGIONAL LEADERS

     COLUMBUS -- Three prominent Columbus businesswomen have been
named co-chairs of the local chapter of the National Council of
Ohio State Women, an organization to promote networking and
mentoring among Ohio State University alumnae.

     The Columbus council is led by Dorothy R. Brownley, senior
vice president and director of corporate relations and marketing
at Huntington Bancshares Inc.; Donna A. James, administrative
officer and assistant to the chief executive officer of
Nationwide Insurance; and Karen R. Schwarzwalder, president and
chief executive officer of the YWCA of Columbus.

     Another local resident, Kimber Perfect, vice president of
marketing for COSI, Ohio's Center of Science and Industry, is
serving as national chair.

     "The National Council will provide a unique opportunity for
communication and growth among our alumnae and the university,
and we are thrilled that these outstanding community leaders will
be involved in its development," said E. Gordon Gee, president of
the university.  "I am confident that their leadership will make
the Columbus council a model for similar organizations across the
country."

     The National Council was developed in May 1992 to:

     ~ Connect Ohio State women with each other both personally
and professionally.

     ~ Enable them to share experiences, talents and resources.

     ~ Re-connect these women to the university in leadership
roles.

     ~ Allow them to serve as role models, mentors and fund-
raising partners for the Critical Difference for Women campaign
and other university programs.

     Critical Difference for Women is a program that provides
financial support to re-entry, graduate and professional women
students, as well as to faculty and staff members of Ohio State.
Scholarships, fellowships and grants are funded through gifts to
the program.


     Dorothy Brownley joined Huntington National Bank as a
marketing administrator in 1985, and became senior vice president
and director of corporate relations and marketing at Huntington
Bancshares in 1990.  She earned a Master of Business
Administration degree at Ohio State in 1985 and graduated with
honors from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the
University of Delaware.  She is a member of the Columbus
Metropolitan Club, the YWCA Board of Trustees, the National
Society to Prevent Blindness, and the board of trustees of
Capital University.

     Donna James has 12 years experience in the management of
investment products for retirement plans.  A graduate of North
Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with a B.S.
in accounting, she is a certified public accountant and
registered securities representative with the National
Association of Securities Dealers.  She serves on the YWCA Board
of Trustees and the Columbus Association of Black Insurance
Professionals.  She is vice chair of the state Supreme Court's
Client Security Fund Commission.

     Karen Schwarzwalder served as executive director of the YWCA
of Columbus from 1986 until being named president in 1993.  Prior
to joining the YWCA, she served as manager of the office of
Labor/Management Cooperation in the Ohio Department of
Development.  She has also been director of human resources and
public affairs for Dynamic Telecom Systems Inc. and been a
teacher in the Columbus Public Schools and a volunteer in the
Peace Corps.  A 1965 graduate of Ohio State with a B.A. in
English, she is a member of the Ohio Humanities Council and the
Columbus Community Relations Commission.

     "The National Council is a forum that will coordinate and
focus the efforts, talents and enthusiasm of our alumnae through
the guidance of those accomplished individuals who will lead our
regional councils," Perfect said.  "It is within this context
that each and every member -- both individually and collectively
-- will help to chart the course of the National Council and
support the university."

     To date, 11 regional councils, with more than 250 total
members, have been established in Boston, New York, New Jersey,
Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Columbus,
Cleveland, Lima, Florida and Hong Kong.
