11-10-93 Students in Car Rally NEWS ADVISORY Two marketing students at The Ohio State University College of Business will compete with teams from 19 other universities in the Geo Metro EconoRun, a seven-day cross-country road rally, this month. Chris Danes, a senior from DAYTON, and and Darren Mieskoski, a senior from BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, near Cleveland, will leave New York City Monday (11/15) for Los Angeles where they will finish on Nov. 21. Teams will drive identical Geo Metros and seek to obtain the best fuel efficiency. The schools of the top three teams will receive $20,000, $10,000 or $5,000. Teams also will compete each day for scholarship money for their universities. Each university will receive a $1,000 honorarium. The top three teams in daily competitions will receive $4,000, $2,000 or $1,000 for their schools. Chevrolet is paying for expenses for the teams, including hotel stays. After a rules meeting with the Sports Car Club of America on Sunday, teams will leave Monday, traveling on Interstate 80. Overnight stops will feature presentations from business leaders. The first stop is Nov. 13 in Cleveland. Other stops are in Chicago; Lincoln, Neb.; Cheyenne, Wyo.; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Las Vegas.
