03-11-94 Alliance for Women to hold vigil for crime victims 3-11-94 NEWS ADVISORY: ALLIANCE OF WOMEN PLAN VIGIL The Alliance of Women is sponsoring a candlelight vigil for Stephanie Hummer and other recent victims of violent crimes. The vigil will take place tonight (3/11) from 10-11 p.m. at 15th Avenue and High Street in front of the Wexner Center. The Alliance of Women is a new organization created to act as a voice for women students, both on The Ohio State University campus and in the neighborhoods. The vigil is aimed at addressing violence against women who have fallen victim to aggression and sexual assault. The Alliance for Women hopes to raise awareness that all persons must organize and become educated to the problem of violence in our society. Speakers from local women's organizations, including Willa Young, coordinator of Ohio State's Rape Education and Prevention Program, will talk on subjects such as rape prevention and education and self-defense for women. (Note: Stephanie Hummer, a freshman student at Ohio State from Cincinnati, was murdered last Sunday.
