03-25-94 Pharmaceutical Seminar NEWS ADVISORY: ANNUAL PHARMACEUTICAL CONFERENCE TO FOCUS ON MANAGED COMPETITION Everyone's talking about health care reform and managed care, but what will it mean to pharmaceutical professionals? That's the focus of the 39th annual Ohio Pharmaceutical Seminar to be held April 18 and 19 at the Marriott North Hotel, 6500 Doubletree Ave. in Columbus. The conference, Managed Competition and Pharmaceutical Care: A Challenge for the Profession, is sponsored by The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. According to Alan Escovitz, director of pharmacy extension services at the college, the seminar is designed for pharmacists and other health care providers, the pharmaceutical industry, managed care organizations, consumer groups and health care planners. "The two-day seminar will provide a comprehensive analysis of managed competition -- a market-based plan designed to control costs while increasing access and quality," he said. "The seminar will focus on the emerging role of pharmacists in delivering preventive and primary health care services." Speakers include health care industry experts, consultants and analysts, executives of managed care and pharmacy benefit organizations, representatives of the mail order sector, and members of the academic community. They will address many public policy and professional issues related to a managed care market. A complete schedule is printed in the enclosed booklet. Reporters are invited to attend any session.
