06-09-94 City Phone Service Interrupted AMERITECH CABLE CUT AFFECTS CALLS TO SOME AREA EXCHANGES Gregory Ashe, director of telecommunications for the University, has issued the following information to the Ohio State community about problems people in Columbus, as well as on campus, may have been experienced in making outgoing calls to some Columbus area locations today. A primary Ameritech communications cable was severed early this morning (Thursday, June 9), cutting off calls to the 291 and 294 exchanges in the university area neighborhoods, as well as calls to Worthington and Dublin. Callers will receive a fast busy signal when calling these areas. In addition, because of the congestion on other city lines caused by re-routed traffic from the damaged links, callers may receive fast busy signals on calls to other exchanges. The University's 292 and 293 exchanges are not affected. The only effect for UNITS customers is in making outgoing calls to the areas served by the damaged cable. Calls to the 911 emergency service number and 411 directory assistance number are not affected. Ameritech is making repairs but has not forecast when complete service will be restored.
