07-08-94 Ohio State Marion campus gets board of trustees 7-8-94 OHIO STATE MARION CAMPUS TO GET REGIONAL BOARD OF TRUSTEES COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University Board of Trustees Friday (7/8) voted to create boards of trustees for the Marion and Lima regional campuses. Earlier this year, trustees created similar boards for the Newark and Mansfield regional campuses. The new Marion board will replace the Citizens Advisory Council that had been in place for more than 30 years. The Marion board will consist of 11 members appointed by trustees and will include one university trustee, nine Marion area residents, and a non-voting student enrolled at the Marion campus. Members generally will serve three-year staggered terms with the student serving a one-year appointment. "The intention of the board is to increase our representation in the seven counties we serve and to provide more of a community voice into the activities of the campus," said F. Dominic Dottavio, dean and director. "This is an important step forward because it also provides a means of fostering cooperation and coordination among all of the educational institutions of the community." The Marion campus serves Crawford, Delaware, Hardin, Marion, Morrow, Union and Wyandot counties. Powers and duties of the new board will include advising and assisting the dean and director in administering the campus, developing support for the campus, and serving as an advocate for the needs of the campus in local and state government agencies and in the Legislature. In addition, the board is expected to participate in the strategic planning process, participate in the operating and capital budgets process, and coordinate with the board of the Marion Technical College in areas of common interest. Under board bylaws, trustees will serve without pay, but may be reimbursed for expenses. The Marion campus board will have executive, finance, and campus facilities and planning committees. # Contact: F. Dominic Dottavio, dean and director, (614) 389- 6223 or 292-9133.
