09-29-94 Emergency Phone Nos. on Student Cards OHIO STATE STUDENTS TO CARRY EMERGENCY NUMBERS COLUMBUS -- In the next two weeks, all Ohio State students residing in Franklin County will receive safety information cards that they can carry with them at all times. The cards, a service of the Greek Community Awareness Council, will carry telephone numbers to call for emergency and other safety services, including Columbus and Ohio State police, the Undergraduate Student Government Crime Watch Escort Service, Poison Control Center, Rape Crisis Center, AIDS Hotline, and Suicide Prevention Hotline. Additional numbers will allow students quick and easy references for obtaining information concerning their financial aid, course registration, fees, and other services. "The card is made of flexible plastic which is light-weight, and easy to carry," said Harris Levinson, co-director of the Greek Community Awareness Council. Levinson, a senior from Long Island, N.Y., majoring in consumer affairs, said: "A lot of people on campus don't know who to call in case of emergency or university numbers to get their scholarship money, etc. This card is the only thing students can carry with them all the time. Students can carry it to the bars, the restaurants. It's portable and it's convenient." Students will receive the cards with their winter quarter registration materials which are to be mailed the first week of October. Students who live outside Franklin County can pick up the card at various student services offices and several campus area businesses that are helping to sponsor the card. The Greek Community Awareness Council is a joint effort of the Women's Panhellenic Association and the InterFraternity Council at Ohio State. # Contact: Harris Levinson, (614) 297-1909. Note to reporters: Honors students will be stuffing safety information cards and winter quarter registration materials into envelopes Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Royer Student Activities Center, 85 Curl Drive, in the North Campus residence hall area. Levinson will be available to talk with reporters during those hours.
